Meet your counsellor Beata McLean
​
Beata moved to Old Bar on the Mid North Coast in early 2023 from Sydney, looking for a more balanced lifestyle. She is a mother of three, a wife and animal lover, with a house full of pets, love and laughter, which can be very busy and chaotic at times.
​
She has been working with people in various capacities and roles for almost twenty years, including leadership, people management, coaching, mentoring, personal and professional development, informal and formal counselling. She has previously worked for large and small organisations, within Australia and overseas, in several countries in Europe. She is passionate, committed, and loves working with and supporting people of all levels, ages, and backgrounds, she will be able to help you to embrace life according to what matters to you most - even if you’re not sure what that means at the moment! – we can work it out together.

Counselling Approach and philosophy
​
Beata is a qualified practising counsellor and holds registration with The Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), a leading national peak body and professional association.
In her counselling approach she integrates several counselling therapies and psychotherapy approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Existential Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused therapy, Internal Family Systems therapy, Attachment therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-based therapies, Polyvagal therapy, Play therapy and more, to suit each individual and their unique situation. She is also trained in Domestic and Family Violence, Suicide Prevention and Interventions, strength based and solution focused therapies. Her aim is to always put the clients first, help them to explore and understand their situation, discover the best solutions, and guide them to overcome problems, barriers, and to achieve their goals towards a more fulfilling life.

She is practising trauma-informed and people centred counselling, supporting people wide range of issues and mental health problems including anxiety, depression, loss and grief, domestic and family violence, alcohol and other drugs counselling, stress management, interpersonal relationships, reduce emotional concerns, work life balance, workplace difficulties, career counselling, managing difficult life situations and decisions, challenges and changes, strengthen relationships, and improve social connections. In addition to healing therapies, she also provides psychoeducation to help develop positive self-identity, self-awareness, mindfulness, healthier sense of self, healthy relationships with self and others, improve overall mental health and wellbeing.

Beata has extensive knowledge and experience in working with people of all ages, from diverse cultural, ethnic, socio-economic, and racial backgrounds and with various experiences, religious beliefs, genders, sexual orientation, lifestyles, and challenges.
Beata currently manages her private counselling practise YourLife Counselling and Psychotherapy where she provides ongoing counselling and psychotherapy services and also volunteers for a not for profit organisation, The Women Kind Collective located in Wingham, which is a space for all women of the Mid Coast Community, where she provides free counselling to the vulnerable.

In addition to her current skills and knowledge, she is committed to ongoing professional development to further her knowledge and skills to be able to better help and support individuals to improve their life and future.

Personal Attributes

Beata is passionate about working with adults, children & adolescents and young people to navigate through challenging life events and issues such as grief and loss, anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem and confidence, adjustment to change and difficulties. Beata will help you to develop the skills, strength and tools to live your life to the fullest. She also works with the families of young people to enhance the relationships which are essential for the healthy support systems we all need to thrive.

She is a down-to-earth therapist that speaks your language and provides a place where you can be yourself. Her aim is to create a place that offers creative and flexible ways for people to learn about themselves, their situations, their minds, strengths, abilities and needs; Where they can be part of the learning journey and healing process, part of an effective and collaborative relationship, to build and maintain positive self-image, good relationships and a fulfilling life.

Beata understands what you’re going through, because she’s been through difficult, highly stressful and challenging situations herself, that led her to study, become a professional counsellor and help others. Beata wants you to feel understood, empowered and accepted for who you are. She believes that with the right support and guidance every person has the strength and the ability to deal with, manage and overcome whatever you’re going through right now. Whether you’re looking for support through a challenging time or looking to discover your potential, she wants you to feel comfortable on every step of the way. She wants to help you feel supported and open to bettering yourself, while knowing not to expect a rigid, text-book type of therapist, she will be flexible and adjust to your needs and situation along the way.

She is perfectly positioned to get you started in a new way of life, help you to identify your strengths, goals, support and encourage you to achieve what you want and to get you to where you want to be in life.
